After Years of being knitsyknits, i’m still knitsy, but with a few more things to write about

KnitsyKnits will always be part of me. As the years have passed, my interests have changed. Travel and photography are big parts of who I am, so I wanted to blend all of my passions into one new look!

December 1, 2020

When I first launched the KnitsyKnits brand in October of 2014, I had dreams of what that brand would become. Never did I envision the ride my life would take with the twists and turns that would bring me to where I am today. As my passions have changed, so have I. All these changes have definitely steered away from the original KnitsyKnits mission and goals, so it was time to go through a transformation.

I still have so much love for the knitting world, but as the years have passed, I have found new inspirations beyond just the sticks and yarn. My lifestyle has changed. My hobbies have changed. My brand vision has changed. My values have even changed in ways I didn’t expect. It was time to alter the path of the brand name to embrace these changes.

Of course, I still love knitting and its community—pretty sure I’m going to love it until the day I can knit no more. With the popularity of social media, the fiber world has changed and I have become less inspired to always talk or post about knitting. I needed to find a way to be inspired again. I haven’t been feeling motivated to design, write new patterns, or share my projects because all I want to post are pictures of our adorable fur baby girl, Dr. Phineas (aka Phinny), or pictures from my photography trip adventures. But these posts that excited me weren’t in line with the KnitsyKnits brand and so I decided to stop sharing almost altogether. It was time to find inspiration again. It was time to find that passion again. It was time to change the brand direction.

I had dreams of KnitsyKnits labeled accessories for sale in boutiques all over the world . . . but I found that my desire for that goal was quickly dissipating.

I used to only use knitting needles with my yarn . . . but crochet has snuck its way into my heart and now I am inspired to pick up the hook more than I thought I would.

I had dreams of teaching at every knitting convention that existed . . . but it was hard to connect to students on a deeper level when running from one class to another.

I loved living in Los Angeles and planned to stay there for a long time . . . but the road called my name and I was tired of watching shows about travel rather than actually experience traveling to those places myself.

I used to be happy with pictures I took with my cell phone . . . but my passion for photography has grown quickly and taken a serious turn into me wanting to be as strong of a photographer as I can be.

Exploring The Narrows at Zion National Park was something I will never forget!

Exploring The Narrows at Zion National Park was something I will never forget!

I was okay with a vacation here and there whenever my husband could get time off work . . . but two trips a year just wasn’t enough to quench my wanderlust.

After a lot of brainstorming about what I wanted KnitsyKnits to become, the word “explore” kept coming to mind. I wanted to explore the country, the world, yarn shops, fiber farms, taco joints, national parks, and everything in between. And with this word coming up over and over, I came to the decision to embrace Explore with Knitsy as my new vision.

At first, it was “Explore with Krista,” but I’m still Knitsy. I love that name. Knitsy is who I am. And so Explore with Knitsy felt like it encompassed all of what I now desire to share with the world in one name.

And so, I welcome you to Explore with Knitsy! Get ready for a lot more patterns, pictures, travel adventures, and Phinny’s adorable face, because my excitement has surged and I am more motivated and inspired than ever to bring you inside my crazy world!
