Back to School Gifts for Every Knitter (Gift Guide)

July 1, 2021

It’s hard to believe that school is going to be back in session sooner than later. Whether you are heading back to school yourself or a loved one is venturing off to college, returning to college, or even starting high school . . . they are going to need a creative outlet to help keep them focused on all the learning they have ahead of them.

And don’t forget to think about your favorite teacher! If they are a knitter, this gift guide will help trigger some ideas for gifts for them. They work hard and deserve some nice tools in their knitting bag!

Knitting is what helped me survive college. No joke. I had a one hour bus ride each way to school and if I was too tired to study, I pulled out my knitting and stitched away.

During class, I would pull out my knitting to help keep me focused. The science shows that repetitive movements of the hands can help many brains find focus, relieve stress, and relax. Gotta trust the science!

True story: I had one professor that called me up to the front after class one day. He told me I couldn’t knit during class. I responded that if I got anything less than an A in class, I would stop.

I didn’t have to stop knitting and he never said another word. BOOM!

Enjoy this gift guide and don’t hesitate to forward this link to someone that needs a little hint on what to get you if you are heading back to school!

#1: Vertex Colorblock Projects Book

This awesome pattern book is a collection of eleven garments and accessories that use the intarsia technique. Color blocking is super popular and your favorite knitter can whip up some pieces in their college colors to wear to all those fun school activities that make the schooling years so memorable!

Make sure your knitter has a great project bag to throw in their backpack and keep their projects clean and safe. And come on, who can resist a knitting hedgehog?!

A simple, but really beautiful cowl pattern kit that is the perfect size to throw in a backpack and stitch away during football games. This kit is a lot of fun to knit up and the color changing yarn keeps the knitter interested and fashionable no matter which colorway you choose for them!

The multi function of these little markers is a must for every knitter. Whether they are used to mark rows, hold stitches, or the plethora of other ways they can be used, they are a must for every knitting bag. And the tiny little tin keeps them safe and tidy so no digging around in that gross dorm room couch for missing markers.

These colorful stitch markers are one of my absolute favorite notions in my knitting bag. Their little tin fits nicely into any project bag and the colors are so much fun! Because they are metal with an enamel coating, they won’t change weird colors or rubber band up like the rubber ones do (you know what I’m talking about!). I always have this tin nearby and use the different colors to indicate different parts of my knitting.

How was there ever knitting before interchangeable circular knitting needle sets?! Seriously! There are three reasons why these are an absolute must for any knitter. First, no accidentally working with two different sized needles because every size is its own color. Every knitter has done it! Second, the handy little case they come in is compact enough to throw into a backpack or dorm room drawer while staying neat and organized. And lastly, having a tangle of different sized knitting needles with different cable lengths gets old really fast. Keep your favorite knitter’s needle bag clean and tidy with this perfect little set of circs.

Cable needles are a must - even if you aren’t working cables. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes (links to more options below) for any weight of yarn that you are working with. These handy tools are inexpensive, but crazy valuable. They can hold dropped stitches, save live stitches while you fix a mistake, and make beautiful cables! Keep a few different sizes handy because knitters never know when they will need a little extra help!
